A New Microsoft Excel Client and Their Unique Need
We had a company call us with a request to document their Excel files. The person that wrote them, formulas and macros, left.
We documented two file consisting of over 20 sheets and 1,000 lines of VBA code by producing a 10 page PDF. It Show:
- Process flow Description of the Project Status Report
- a. Walk-through of each steps processed in this file including what each macro procedure performs
- Process flow Description of the Operations Dashboard
- a. Walk-through of each steps processed in this file including what each macro procedure performs
- Relationship between Navision Tools and Project Status Report
- a. This shows the mapped fields between each file when pulling data
- Process flow chart of the Project Status Report showing how each spreadsheet is linked to each other when pulling data
- Breakdown of the Deviation calculation in detail from spreadsheets to column and rows
- The purpose of this breakdown is to show what data is being pulled from what spreadsheet/file and what is being calculated to return a Deviation Delta which is essentially the Deviation Calculation
- Actual Math Deviation Calculation.
In doing this process we discovered flaws in the Deviation Calculation formulas and assumptions that weren’t always true. After talking to the client, we made the changes and delivered an improved product.
