In mathematics, there are the so-called hyperbolic functions which are almost similar to the trigonometric functions. One of these functions is the hyperbolic sine. Hyperbolic functions are mostly used in solving mathematical problems or equations, specifically, trigonometric problems. They are most often used by students in engineering, mathematics and science or even the experts. Not often used by Excel consultants, but we will cover it any way, as this is a general Excel help article. Of course, it is very difficult to work with mathematical problems which involve hyperbolic functions. Solving them manually is quite hard for some people. If you do it manually, you still need to memorize lots of mathematical equations and working with such kind of mathematical problems is a long process. It would be very time-consuming if you were about to solve them in a manual manner.
Fortunately, there is already computer software which enables you to get the hyperbolic value of a given number particularly the hyperbolic sine. Microsoft Excel offers several built-in functions which allow the users to perform mathematical calculations in a very easy way. Through MS Excel, all you need to do is to type in the formula of the function in your Excel spreadsheet, plug in the value in the formula and then, that’s it. You can already have the result automatically. But just make sure that you get no errors in using the formula so that you could get the result that you want. There still other hyperbolic functions that Excel can offer, however, this Excel help article will focus on the Excel’s SINH function. Knowing the basic information is a good way to start learning about this function.
What is the SINH Function in Microsoft Excel?
The SINH function in MS Excel has the ability to compute the hyperbolic sine (sinh) of a given number. The formula of the Excel’s SINH function is:
=SINH (number)
Always remember that every Excel formula must be preceded by an equal (=) sign unless the function is included inside another function.
In the formula of the SINH function, the number argument is a real number in which you want to compute for the hyperbolic sine. The argument can be supplied in either of the following:
- You can type in the actual real number
- You can enter the argument as a value returned from other formulas or functions, or
- As a cell reference which contain the value
Here are few examples to learn the usage of the SINH function in Microsoft Excel. You can try doing it in your Excel spreadsheet in order for you to learn how to use the function.
- As an example, type in a numeric value of 0 in cell A2. Then you can enter the SINH function formula in any cell where you want the result to be displayed, in cell B2 for example. The next thing to do is to use this formula, =SINH (A2). The function will return the result which is 0, the hyperbolic sine of the numeric value 0.
- Here’s another one, enter value of 0.5 in cell A3. Then use this formula in cell B3, =SINH (A3). The function will return the result which is 0.521095305.
